Lets eat outside (愒望在外面野餐)

Yay! Summer is here. Oh, how I want to eat outside in the backyard like many people who own houses with backyards. Unfortunately, I live in high-rise apartment which constraints us to just envying them. What to do? Well, I did not lose that spirit of eating outside at all. I just improvised and created the atmosphere at home. So instead of having BBQ, we had something a bit less meaty for tonite. Take a look at what We had this evening.
These were tonite dinner: carrots, fish, tofu, cucumbers, tomatoes, chickens, green and home-made chilli. Happy Saturday!

Leticia Paintings (四歲侄女思思畫的)

My computer died down on me a few days ago. I was so upset that I have not been able to paint anything. Here came my lil rescuer – my niece Leticia. My sis sent me a couple of paintings that my little four years old niece did.

I was in awe when I saw her paintings. It is not easy to do water-color nicely. Least of all for a four-year old child whom has never painted any water-color before. Not only she could paint the shape of them correctly, she used vibrant color which I have difficulty using them on all my paintings. Now I am seriously very jealous of her.

My Little Helper The Vacuum Cleaner (我的小帮手-吸尘機)

I have wanted to write about my new little helper the vacuum cleaner, the minute I opened the vacuum dirt container and found it did a good job of picking upp dust, hairs, and dirt from all over my apartment floor. I have been eyeing this vacuum cleaner for quite sometime ever since I read the good review about it on papers. But I had since refrained from buying it because it was quite costly. During these times, I could only dream that if only I had that vacuum, I can do other house chores without worrying when to clean the apartment, as it takes a lot of my time just to vacuum the apartment.

So to cut the story short, I finally got it. I love it so very much. We set it up for it to start vacuuming the apartment at 8 am once every two days. At the exact time, the vacuum will turn on by itself and start cleaning the house. At first I was so worried that it might get stuck under the sofa or bed and so I followed it around while it did the vacuuming. It picked up a lot of dust and dirt that piled up under the bed and sofa and at places that are difficult to reach for me to clean. Although it didn’t do it perfectly but I am very pleased to say that the vacuum lives up to that good review.

It picks up the signal from lighthouse and creates invincible line which the vacuum won’t cross over it.
It cleans corners.
It has little brush with three arms at one side of the vacuum.
Includes two lighthouses.
The vacuum will go back to its base after cleaning and recharge the battery.

It comes with two light houses. The vacuum picks up signal from lighthouses and does not go over the boundaries where we place them. I can let it run around picking up anything on the floor while doing the practice, or while cooking and the list can go on and on. It gives me a peace of mind and not to worry when to clean the apartment. I must confess that I am such a lazy bum and do not vacuum my apartment daily as I want to. Look what it picked up when it ran around my apartment. Now I know how dirty my place was (picture below is the dirt it picked up on the very first time). Oh, how I love this little vacuum dearly. Now should I name it?

Stir-Fried Broccoli Mushroom (炒蘑菇西兰花)

It’s been awhile since we had broccoli mushroom for dinner. So I thought of cooking this tonight. It is a simple dish. All we need are broccoli and two different types of mushrooms (or any mushroom you preferred). Stir fry them just like we do any vegetables.

Boiled broccoli, canned Straw (shimeji) and fresh everbloom Shitake mushroom.
Chopped garlic, 2 table spoons oyster sauce and 2 tea spoons corn starch.
Heat the oil in a wok and saute the garlic till slightly brown.
Add Shitake mushroom, stir fry it for a few minutes.
Add the straw mushroom.

I used canned straw mushroom instead of fresh, that was why I stir fried it one after another.

Add the oyster sauce when frying them and lastly add the corn starch to the cooked mushroom.
Pour it on top of the cooked broccoli.

It’s all done. This stir fry can be a side dish or you can eat it with steam rice. You may add tofu and meat to it too. Enjoy! Note: the broccoli was placed neatly for presentation purposes. You can just mix everything together when you cook. Looks good, right? Happy trying this no fail recipe.

Steam Chicken Rice (雞飯)

Have you ever wondered how to cook the easiest chicken rice? Well, I have. I remember my mom liked to cook her best steam chicken rice (in my opinion lol). Although it is not like many chicken rice from Chinese restaurants, but this one does not require any special recipe or skill to cook it. What we need are: boneless-skinless chicken (It doesn’t have to be skinless), dried mushroom (you may use fresh one), garlic, and seasoning (such as soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil).

Pickled cucumber. This is optional.
Pickled carrots. this is optional.
Soak the mushrooms and cut into small pieces.
Diced the chicken.
Fry the garlic untill it is slightly brown.
Add chicken and stir fry it for a few minutes.
Add mushroom and season it. Stir fry it for about 15 minutes. It is ready.

Now we are going to steam the rice with the pre -cooked chicken mushroom in it.

Put the cooked chicken in the bowl.
Add washed rice on top of it. Remember do not put too much rice in the bowl. When it is cooked the rice will expand. Add the water to the brim of the bowl.
Steam it for 45 minutes.

I added pickled carrots, cucumbers and few slices of tomatoes and lettuce to complete this dish. Enjoy.

No Meat Wraps (包蔬菜海鲜酱)

I bought some wraps today and have been wanting to make vegetable wraps for quite sometime. Hoisin sauce was used as spread on the wraps. It was a ready-made from supermarket. But if you want to make it yourself, you can take a look at this website.

All we need are: wraps, hoisin sauce, tomatoes, eggs, lettuce and green onions. Here are the pictures.

I bought two different wraps to try. The original wrap made from flour and the other one was whole grain wraps which was thicker and it would break when I tried to squeeze and roll it. This is the easiest meal that I have ever made. All I needed to do was fried the eggs and the rest was just washing and cutting job. For once we do not have meat in our meal. Isn’t it great? Try it, you might love it. Oh, I almost forget to let you know, please do not add any salt, because the sauce itself is very salty. In case you are wondering, those two red dips are garlic chilli and sweet chilli sauce. Enjoy your wraps.
