When my maternal grandmother passed away many decades ago, my mom and her siblings, each got a piece of grandma’s new clothing to remember her. And when I moved to Singapore, my mom gave it to me so as not to forget my granny and at the same time remember where I came from. The clothing is actually a batik kebaya cloth which many Indonesian women use to wrap around them as a skirt. My grandma was born in Indonesia and had chosen kebaya clothing as her choice of wear in her later years.
I had been thinking of batik pattern these few days and remembered that I own a piece very ordinary batik cloth from my granny. So I recreated the pattern on my rice paper instead for you to enjoy.
